Building Futures Symposium

Each year Habitat Charlotte Region hosts the symposium on affordable housing to hear from industry experts and regional panelists that can provide insight into the ongoing affordable housing crisis that affects our North Carolina region and much of the country.

The Building Futures Symposium is part of our Beloved Community initiative. This initiative focuses on bringing people together from across the area to help build a brighter, more just Charlotte Region and is grounded by the immense opportunity created through affordable housing for families historically left out of America’s dream of prosperity.

Keynote Speaker – Mia Birdsong
Mia is a pathfinder, writer, and facilitator who steadily engages the leadership and wisdom of people experiencing injustice to chart new visions of American life. She has a gift for making visible and leveraging the brilliance of everyday people so that our collective gifts reach larger spheres of influence, cultural and political change, and create well-being for everyone.

Mia is the founding Executive Director of Next River, an institute for practicing the future. Next River moves conversations, culture, and resources to nourish the people and communities whose ways of being, doing, and relating can move us toward a liberated future.
