Tom Hanchett is a community historian and popular speaker in our city. He’s best known for his book about Charlotte history, Sorting Out the New South City (UNC Press, 1998), and for his wide-ranging website HistorySouth.org. His food explorations have appeared often in the Charlotte Observer and are included in Cornbread Nation: The Best of Southern Food WritingCharlotte Magazine calls him “Charlotte’s Dr. History” and named him a Charlottean of the Year.
